Hi, I'm Fabio Severino, a software engineer and entrepreneur based in Pisa, Italy. I've spent the last decade or so building software products, mostly the complicated kind, and I'm still mainly trying to do one thing well: make systems that are simple, transparent, and actually worth trusting.
I was born in Palermo and moved to Pisa to study Computer Science at the University of Pisa. While I was still a student I started Geckosoft, which has slowly grown into a team of 25+ developers building challenging software for clients around the world.
In 2020 I co-founded Traent, where we built a Web3 ecosystem for more transparent and sustainable enterprises on a novel hybrid blockchain architecture that, for the first time, made real-time and data-intensive applications possible on blockchain. Today I'm the founder and CTO of Rational AI (2025), while still serving as CTO of the Geckosoft Group.
Along the way I've worked on platforms across fintech, AI, and digital infrastructure, including a bond-trading platform for the Canadian market that ended up handling a fairly large volume of transactions. I also enjoy teaching, and collaborate with universities as a guest lecturer on blockchain, AI, and emerging tech.
Right now I'm also writing (yet another) book on AI, this one focused on sovereign and trustworthy AI. I lean on examples from things I've actually built over the years: systems for making AI more transparent, AI for monitoring critical infrastructure, and Rational AI itself, which my team and I are building into a sovereign AI harness centered on private, local AI built in Europe.
The slightly boring details, for the record: nine international patents (plus one pending, in digital health) and a bit over ten papers on AI, blockchain, and distributed systems. I'm prouder of the teams than the numbers.
